What is Green Burial?
Green burial is an environmentally friendly disposition alternative. As opposed to traditional burial, green burial is done without the use of embalming, the deceased is then placed in a biodegradable casket or shroud, and then the loved one is then lowered directly into the ground without being enclosed in a concrete box or "burial vault". There is also no traditional headstone that may encumber the natural growth of the surrounding flora. The burial plot can be located instead with gps, a planted tree that is native to the area, or a landstone that is already in the area. Green burial also takes into account the environmental impact of things like landscaping practices including low/no irrigation, restoring native plants in the area and digging plots by hand to reduce CO2 emissions by heavy machinery.
